Thanks so much for stopping by. So sorry for my recent absence from here, I've been really busy trying to raise funds for my local children's hospice, made over 1000 cupcakes and 1000 cookies to sell for them - donations are still coming in.
I took time out yesterday, though, for a trip up to Manchester (England) for Smut Manchester,( http://smutmanchester.co.uk/) a fun filled event for erotic writers and readers. We had a wonderful time.
Ashley Lister,(www.ashleylister.co.uk), a man whom I greatly admire, ran a workshop on poetry, which was informative as well as loads of fun. We learned how to write a Cinquain as well as an English Quintain. We also had a go at writing a naughty limerick, here's my attempt:
I wanted to go for a shag,
Collected my toys in a bag,
A few minutes later
I broke my vibrator
So settled for a drink and a fag!
Hmm, maybe I won't be taking up poetry! It was pointed out how close this sort of writing is to writing song lyrics.
Jennifer Denys,(jennifer-denys.blogspot.co.uk) delivered a really interesting workshop on collaborative writing, and has changed my mind completely about the idea of co-authoring a book - I value my friendships too much, lol! We had a go at plotting a story with three separate people - some authors, some not - which was really enlightening as well as great fun.
We were also treated to demonstrations of bondage kits and sex toys, most of which led to a great deal of hilarity, especially when Sister Jacqui (https://www.facebook.com/jacqui.moff.56?fref=ts) joined us!

I read from 'Dallas at Midnight' and dressed up as a cowgirl to promote my cowboy romance stories. I didn't look half as good as the girl on my cover, of course, but it added to the fun!
If you've never attended one of the 'Smut' events I strongly recommend you give them a try if you can. In my opinion this one was the best so far. The next event is being held in Luton on 7th March and I will definitely be attending again. It's a wonderful mixture of authors and readers with fun workshops, demonstrations and socialising. You can pick up books at knock-down prices and get them autographed by the author. It is a great opportunity for authors to meet and chat to readers.
For would-be authors there is always plenty of advice on hand and you might be surprised at how approachable and friendly everyone is.
I can't wait for the next event - hope to see you there!
Take care
Good to see you at Smut Manchester. Glad you enjoyed my workshop - although you were the only person I put off co-writing! I think I emphasised the negatives more than the positives LOL!
ReplyDeleteHaha - you were very honest about it, that's for sure. Loved the exercise we did but it did make me think twice about doing it for real. Brilliant insight into the practise - thanks so much for sharing it with us, Jen. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the cinquain. It was an absolute pleasure meeting you on Saturday. I hope we get more of a chance to chat at a future event.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. I love your work :)
